Don’t buy this millionaire’s terrible Star Wars house

This $15 million mansion has a special Star Wars room, complete with a bed designed to look like one of The Empire Strikes Back's snowspeeders.

It's terrible.

The Incom T-47 airspeeder was originally a civilian craft, designed to carry industrial cargo with its hardy tow rope before being pressed into service and retrofitted with twin laser cannons by a Rebel Alliance desperate for military hardware. This bed is shiny, gleaming, new, and bristling with guns. It houses six cannons — an obviously unbelievable amount of weaponry to fuse to a single ship without shields or a hyperdrive. The repulsorlift-powered T-47 isn't even capable of breaking atmosphere.

The next iPhone could be pink and have a pressure-sensing screen

Apple is planning to release new iPhones later this year with Force Touch-equipped displays, according to The Wall Street Journal . Force Touch was one of the key themes at Apple's event on Monday; the Apple Watch uses the pressure-sensing technology to detect how hard a user is pushing on the screen, and it's also been integrated into the new MacBook and refreshed MacBook Pro's trackpads. On the Apple Watch, Force Touch allows for more input options considering the small size of the screen, while the new MacBook uses it to simulate a traditional mouse click, among other things.

The new phones are unlikely to differ too dramatically in design from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus; Apple almost always keeps its phone bodies around for two years,...

Pioneering tech blog Gigaom shuts down after running out of money

Gigaom, the influential technology website founded by Om Malik nearly a decade ago, is no more. Although Monday saw a lot of new content on the site, including a flood of news and analysis from Apple's event, the site's management ended the day at 5.57PM PT by posting a message notifying readers that "all operations have ceased" as a result of the company becoming unable to pay its creditors.

"Gigaom is winding down and its assets are now controlled by the company's lenders," said Malik in a statement. "It is not how you want the story of a company you founded to end." Malik left Gigaom just over a year ago to become a partner at True Ventures, a venture capital firm; at that time, he noted that the site had raised more than $8 million...

Much can be said about the things Apple's left out of its latest 12-inch MacBook with Retina Display. You don't get a MagSafe power plug, or any of the old ports from previous models (except for a place to plug in your headphones). And the front-facing camera is a step down in quality from what you get on the MacBook Air. On the flipside, the entire computer is two pounds, has a Retina Display, and promises a very reasonable 9 hours of battery life.

All in all, it's come a long way from the big generational change with Apple's previous thinnest and lightest computer, the MacBook Air. Its 2010 redesign brought over a bunch of miniaturization tricks from iPhones and iPads to make it even thinner than the first-generation model it...

Art critic Jerry Saltz suspended from Facebook

Art has always posed a problem for Facebook. Its community standards ban nudity, and the combination of algorithms and overseas workers that scan the site for infractions have trouble distinguishing between an artistically nude image and a pornographically nude one. It’s usually a little funny when this happens, and prompts lots of lightly outraged stories about Facebook’s philistinism and discussions about context and censorship and what is art, anyway?

Valve's virtual reality headset is great, but its controllers are the real story

Valve has a lot of trust to regain when it comes to hardware. The Steam Machine concept — a fusion of consoles and gaming PCs, running Valve's own OS — was huge news in 2013 and early 2014, then dropped almost completely off the map, as it became clear that the strange, slightly yonic controller needed a redesign and manufacturers could just release their products as traditional gaming PCs. A year later, though, we've got a new game plan, a final controller design, and a virtual reality headset made in partnership with HTC. And Valve is doing something that no other major headset company is: trying to genuinely, practically reinvent the way we use our hands in virtual space.

They wanted to make a video game phenomenon, they made $10 million: the story of Crossy Road

A few years ago, Matt Hall, the 39-year-old co-creator of the enormously successful Crossy Road, was a struggling, unprofitable video games developer living on an Australian sheep farm owned by his parents, chasing a dream of success that had come true for some friends but eluded him.

He'd formed a studio, named KlickTock, which he called a "one-man-band game development company dedicated to making games for everyone." It led to titles with names like Little Things, Doodle Find, Super Search 60 and Zonr. Before that, he worked at Big Ant Studios and Tantalus Interactive, both names in the Australian development scene.

SpaceX has successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket carrying two satellites

The SpaceX team has successfully launched another Falcon 9 rocket. The craft launched as scheduled, at 10:50PM ET, from Cape Canaveral, and is set to make a "soft landing" into the sea after it has carried its payload beyond the Earth's atmosphere. The rocket is unlikely to be recovered.
