Before the 'Top Gear' fracas: Jeremy Clarkson's epic list of controversies

Jeremy Clarkson. A name that stirs up different reactions from different people.

The host of the hugely popular UK motoring show Top Gear elicits feelings of hatred, affection or simply indifference among the people of the world. He is highly controversial and on Tuesday evening was suspended by the BCC from the show after he allegedly punched a producer.

54-year-old Clarkson, who rose to fame in Britain in the late '80s, is known for his often offensive opinions and dislike for politically-correct types. He has defined himself as the straight talking, mouthy, humorous presenter that most people love to hate. His list of apologies for causing offence to almost every minority group under the sun is long-winded and this alleged, so-called 'fracas' with a producer is just the latest controversy. Optus offering new Netflix starter packs

Optus has announced subscription packages for new and recontracting customers to take advantage of the upcoming launch of Netflix Australia on March 24.

Available from March 24 until July 5, Optus will be offering six month Netflix subscriptions to customers who sign up to one of three Optus internet packages.

Customers can select from the following packages on a 24 month contract: the home broadband bundle on a $60 plan or above, a postpaid mobile service on a $60 plan or above or a postpaid mobile broadband service on a $30 plan or above.

Optus will be providing its fixed broadband customers unmetered access to Netflix from April 17, and has also announced a new automatic mobile data top up plan for people who want to continue watching the service when they're on the go.

Optus My Plan Plus customers will be able to keep the show going when they're away from home, with automatic data top ups for $10 per extra GB ensuring that customers don't go into shock the next time they receive their mobile phone bill.

Optus prepaid customers will also receive a three month subscription to Netflix when they activate the SIM of any new Optus prepaid phone or mobile broadband device.

When Tracy Staedter at Discovery News saw a map going around Facebook claiming — but failing — to hit all the major landmarks in the U.S., she saw a challenge

She contacted Randy Olson, a doctoral student at Michigan State, and asked him to compute one of the most complicated road trips ever. (Olson previously computed the optimal search pattern for finding Waldo in all the Where's Waldo puzzles.)

The "optimized" road trip hits all 48 contiguous states (sorry Hawaii and Alaska), and includes 50 stops at National Natural Landmarks, National Historic Sites, National Parks, and National Monuments. There are two stops in California, and one in D.C. — plus the other 47 states — to get to 50. Read more...

"Do it for the Vine" isn't just a popular phrase — in 2015, it's pretty much a culture. And Mashable, for one, is all about it

We hosted our first-ever Vine #MashMeet this past weekend, together with creative agency Unpopular Now.

It was an effort to foster a strong offline community for Vine influencers and people in the short-form video industry. And we'd say it went pretty well

"The #MashMeet was a party with the most creative people on the Internet. 'Gangsta's Paradise' gets the vintage cover it deserves

It's safe to say that if a classic Chicago gangster such as Al Capone heard Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise," he probably wouldn't be able to relate to it, even though the lyrics to the song speak true to his life.

It's not Capone's fault, he just never lived to hear '90s rap. But thankfully, YouTube cover sensation Scott Bradlee and his rotating cast of talented musicians known as Postmodern Jukebox created a jazzy version of "Gangster's Paradise" that any bootlegger could relate to.

Earthquake update: You want the good news or the bad news, California?

SAN FRANCISCO — Pop the Napa champagne corks, California! Your chances of experiencing a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in the next 30 years just went down

On the other hand, your chances of experiencing a massive, devastating 8.0 magnitude quake just went up. And the Bay Area's chances of suffering a serious quake just went up, while Los Angeles' chances went down.

Such is the summary of a new and far more detailed California earthquake forecast released Tuesday by the U.S. Geological Survey. The overall chance of an 8.0 quake in the next three decades rose from 4.7% to 7%, while the chance of a 6.7 quake — roughly the size of the Northridge quake in LA in 1994, and the Loma Prieta quake that hit San Francisco in 1989 — decreased by 30%. The moment two helicopters crashed, killing 10 people, caught on camera

An Argentinian television network has shown footage of the moment two helicopters crashed into each other, killing 10 people while filming a reality show.

On Monday, three French sport stars, five French nationals working on the show and two Argentinian pilots died in the crash above the hills of La Rioja, Argentina.

The dramatic footage shows the moment the helicopters smash into one another. Before the crash, the top helicopter can be seen shaving branches off a tree with its blades before crossing paths with the other
