Costco Employee With Terminal Cancer Surprised By Customers With Vacation

Shoppers in a California Costco raised money to send a beloved employee, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and his wife on a vacation.

Smith, 45, is known as the "Costco Guy" by customers, because he always greets them with an enthusiastic smile. When shoppers with kids leave the store, he draws them a cute picture on the back of their receipt.

"He's always at the door, he's always giving receipts, he's always smiling, always happy. And people refer to him as "the Costco Guy,"" said customer Steve Maurer to the Fox-affiliated KTVU-TV.

He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two years ago. Then, last September, he was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.

Doctors aren't sure how long he will live, but say maybe two years, KTVU-TV reported.

Despite being diagnosed with cancer, he has continued to have a positive outlook on life and says he plans to work at Costco for as long as he can.

"Since the time he was told that, he's been enthusiastic, and happy, and I'm not kidding," said his wife Shari Smith to KTVU-TV.

UCLA Passes Anti-Semitism Resolution After Jewish Student's Background Questioned

The student government passed a resolution Tuesday after leaders questioned whether a student should serve on the judicial board because she is Jewish.

The resolution stood against, among other points, making stereotypical or dehumanizing allegations about Jews as well as "accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interest of their own nations." It passed 12-0 Tuesday night at the meeting of the Undergraduate Students Association Council.

Last month, the student council violated those tenets, in the eyes of many members of the Jewish community on campus.

During a Feb. 10 council meeting, members interviewed sophomore Rachel Beyda for a position on the student government's judicial board. Beyda, a member of a Jewish sorority who is also part of Jewish campus organization Hillel, described her desire to become a lawyer, and her legal experience from internships.

Video and minutes from the meeting showed council member Fabienne Roth questioning how Beyda could remain "unbiased" given her active role in her Jewish sorority.

Another student objected, and questioning continued. After receiving an explanation of checks and balances from a faculty adviser, the student council unanimously approved her for the position.

"Given that you are a Jewish student and very active in the Jewish community, how do you see yourself being able to maintain an unbiased view?" asked Roth.

Another person in the room then asked if Beyda had "any political affiliations that could cause a conflict of interest" if she were to be elected to the position.

Afterward, Avinoam Baral — the student who nominated Beyda for the position and spoke on her behalf — described his disappointment of the accusations of bias.

Baral, who is also Jewish, said he could hardly believe that in 2015 Jews were being accused of "divided loyalties," a historical theme of anti-Semitic rhetoric.

"Would this sort of travesty fly if I had appointed a member of any other group whether they be religious, ethnic, cultural etc? My feeling is no."

University Of Oklahoma Fraternity House "Mom" Used Racist Slur In Video

The woman denied in an interview that she was aware of racism in the fraternity. Monday night a Vine of her singing the N-word repeatedly surfaced.

Beauton Gilbow was the house "mom" for the fraternity closed by school officials Sunday night after a video was posted showing members chanting the N-word, and referencing lynching.

Gilbow said in an interview Monday that she did not know members were reciting the racist chant and was "shocked."

However, a Vine from 2013 surfaced on Monday night that appears to contradict Gilbow's account.

In the Vine, Gilbow appears to be singing along to Trinidad James' "All Gold Everything."

Gilbow was interviewed Monday by Oklahoma City's CBS affiliate and answered "no" when asked if she was aware of what was going on at the fraternity.

"Did you ever get any indication there was anything like this going on?" News 9's Kelly Ogle asked.

"No, no, no. Never heard the song," Gilbow responded.

Chelsea Clinton "Absolutely" Open To Running For Office

The former first daughter also said she doesn’t always take her mother’s baby advice.

Attending the unveiling of her mother's long awaited "No Ceilings" report measuring the progress of women's rights over the last 20 years, Clinton told Sky News that while she had no immediate political ambitions, that could change.

"Absolutely, I'd consider it one day," she said of running for public office.

For the time being, though, Chelsea said she supported her local, state, and national representatives.

"But if that were to change, and if at the same time I were to think that other people could be better advocates...then I'd have to ask and answer that question," she added.

"I don't know, I really don't, she's making up her mind right now, and I know that she's going to make the right decision for herself and our family," she said.

But since having her own daughter, Charlotte, last year, Chelsea has apparently had to make her own decisions when it comes to Hillary, The Advice-Giving Grandmother.

"She definitely gives me advice, some of it I take, and some of it I sort of smile and say, 'Thank you' for," Chelsea said.

Fraternity Closed At Oklahoma University After Racist Video Surfaces

The University’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon was shut down on Sunday after a video spread on social media allegedly showing fraternity members chanting racist slurs.

The video posted Sunday appears to show people on a bus clapping and chanting "there will never be a n***** SAE / You can hang them from a tree / But they'll never sign with me."

Oklahoma City's NBC-affiliated KFOR TV reported that the clip was filmed Saturday on what appears to be a bus allegedly headed to a date party for the fraternity founder's day.

Women Are Vanishing From Ads For One Day To Promote Gender Equality

Companies like Dove and magazines such as Vogue are editing out the women in their images for one day as part of a campaign from the Clinton Foundation.

Top brands and magazines are yanking women from their advertisements and cover images to promote gender equality on National Women’s Day.

Companies like Dove and magazine such as Vogue are replacing the women in their images for one day with a blank space and the web address to Not-There.org, a campaign from the Clinton Foundation.

The foundation released a video on Sunday, featuring actresses such as Cameron Diaz and Amy Poehler, to explain what the movement is all about.

The campaign is part of the Clinton foundation’s “No Ceilings” initiative, which aims to improve the rights and equality of women around the world.

"I think sometimes the media gives the false impression, through its visual imagery, that women are treated equally in the global conversation,” Vogue editor Anna Wintour said in a statement. “It is important for us to correct that impression, even symbolically on March 8, to move the conversation forward and create real change.”

Iraqi Immigrant Murdered In Dallas While Watching His First Snowfall

Ahmed Al-Jumaili was shot as he stood outside his apartment taking pictures of the snow with his wife and brother. He immigrated to the U.S. from Iraq in February.

It was shortly before 11:40 p.m. Wednesday when Al-Jumaili, 36, stepped outside of his apartment with his wife and his brother, according to Dallas Police Major Jeff Cotner. Snow was falling, which Al-Jamaili — who was from Iraq — had never seen before. As Al-Jamaili posed with his brother, his wife took pictures.

Then shots rang out.

"I'm hit," Al-Jumaili cried, according Cotner.

Al-Jamaili ran back inside his apartment and was later rushed to the hospital, but "died shortly after midnight" on Thursday, Cotner reported Friday.

Cotner said Al-Jamaili came to the U.S. "looking forward to the opportunities that our country provides." Alia Salem — from the Council of American-Islamic Relations — added Friday that Al-Jamaili had only be in the U.S. for 20 days at the time of the shooting.

He also came to be reunited with his wife. On a fundraising page set up after his death, a photo shows Al-Jamaili's wife Zahara holding a sign displaying the amount of time they spent apart.

19-Year-Old Man Shot And Killed By Police In Wisconsin, Sparking Protest

Friends identified the man as Tony Robinson.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval told the Wisconsin State Journal that an officer responded to reports that a man was jumping in and out of traffic. When the officer arrived and heard a "disturbance" in an apartment he forced his way inside, where the man assaulted him, Koval said.

The officer then shot and killed the man.

Decapitated Animals Keep Showing Up In Sacramento And No One Knows Why

Mutilated chickens, cows, rabbits and lambs have been found throughout the California capital city in the last three months. Investigators don’t know if they’re looking at a spurt of animal sacrifices, or a copy-cat seeking attention.

With no hint of where the decapitated animals are coming from, city officials say there's no telling when they'll stop either.

Beginning late last year with the grisly discovery of a cow's head in Reichmuth Park, another cow's head was located just days later a few miles away at Garcia Bend Park.

Headless chickens were then spotted in Old City Cemetery. Maintenance workers who found them were baffled, but discarded the animals and continued their work, Gina Knepp, head of the city's Animal Care Services told BuzzFeed News.

But more decapitated animals would be found, and the gruesome discoveries would come more often, unnerving residents, stumping officials and raising speculation of who is behind it.

"Even if it's an animal sacrifice as a religious practice, though it may be legal, it's still required that it's done in a humane way," Knepp said.

“We’re hoping we don’t get anything today,” Knepp said after animals were found on three consecutive days this week. “I can’t keep up with my workload.”

Soon, the animals began to garner the attention of local newscasts and speculation of what might be behind it all.

"At this point we're expecting someone will give us some sort of tip that leads to an arrest or an explanation at least," Knepp said. "It could be Afro-Caribbean religious practices, or it could be someone is just insane."

Though Santeria, the practice of animal sacrifice, is not known to be prevalent in the city or Northern California, Knepp said officials are considering it as a possibility.

On March 2, several decapitated chickens were found with bloodied dollar bills and cornmeal cake. The following day, a decapitated rabbit and chickens were found with tea lights.

The feet of the chickens were sliced off, and stuffed in the birds' chest cavity.

With the number of incidents increasing, and details of the finds fueling bewilderment, much of the speculation has centered around possible animal sacrifices.

Miguel De La Torre, a professor of theology, social ethics and latino studies at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, said the incidents don't appear like known religious practices.

Ferguson's Top Court Clerk Has Been Fired For Sending Racist Emails

Ferguson Mayor James Knowles announced Wednesday that two city employees had been placed on administrative leave, while a third had been fired. He did not, however, identify the disciplined employees.

But according to a The New York Times report, the fired employee is Mary Ann Twitty. The Times described Twitty as a clerk who "wielded power nearly on par with a judge."

As of Thursday, Missouri's courts website described Twitty as an "assistant court clerk." She was the only administrator listed for Ferguson's municipal court. A LinkedIn page appearing to belong to Twitty lists her job as "court clerk at ferguson police dept."

Ferguson has not responded to BuzzFeed News' requests for comment.

The revelation of Twitty's firing comes after the Department of Justice report revealed that city employees had shared racist emails. During a news conference Wednesday Knowles said that "this type of behavior will not be tolerated in the Ferguson Police Department or any other department."

Obama: Iran Must Freeze Nuclear Program For At Least A Decade

In an interview, President Obama says Iran must halt and dial back its nuclear program for “double-digit years” if it ever hopes to reach a deal to ease sanctions.

Obama's comments came ahead of a March deadline for a framework on a final agreement with Iran over its nuclear program, and one day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses Congress, who opposes the deal.

"If, in fact, Iran is willing to agree to double-digit years of keeping their program where it is right now and, in fact, rolling back elements of it that currently exist ... if we've got that, and we've got a way of verifying that, there's no other steps we can take that would give us such assurance that they don't have a nuclear weapon," Obama told Reuters.

Arch-rival Israel and other critics of the potential deal say the U.S. is too eager to enter into an agreement at the risk of allowing Iran to eventually develop nuclear weapons.

The White House has denied reports that a potential deal would allow Tehran to slowly ramp up its nuclear program after the freeze.

Speaking to Reuters at the White House, Obama said the goal is to make sure "there's at least a year between us seeing them try to get a nuclear weapon and them actually being able to obtain one."

The president criticized Congress for hosting the speech just two weeks before Israel holds its election because "it makes it look like we are taking sides."

Netanyahu, for his part, has defended his decision to accept the invitation of Republican leaders to talk as an important chance to lobby on behalf of his nation as talks on a potential deal with Iran gain possible steam.

Despite hears in Israel that Netanyahu's speech might harm U.S.-Israel ties, Obama on Monday told Reuters that he didn't think it would be "permanently destructive."

Obama also criticized a plan by some in Congress to impose additional sanctions on Iran if a deal isn't reached by June 30.

"I'm less concerned, frankly, with Prime Minster Netanyahu's commentary than I'm with Congress taking actions that might undermine the talks before they're completed," he said.

LAPD: Homeless Man "Forcibly Grabbed" Officer's Gun During Fatal Shooting

The homeless man shot dead by police in a struggle captured on video Sunday was reaching for an officer’s weapon, the Los Angeles police chief says.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said Monday the fatal shooting of a homeless man was a terrible tragedy that could only have been avoided if the man had not "forcibly grabbed" an officer's gun.

The Los Angeles Police Department shared photos at a news conference that showed the handgun's slide partially engaged, a round partially out, and its magazine dislodged.

"This is indicative of a struggle over a weapon," Beck said.

Beck added that Sunday's shooting will be reviewed by the LAPD, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, and the civilian police commission.

In addition to the video a bystander posted on Facebook, Beck said officials would look through "dozens" of surveillance cameras and two body cameras worn by officers.

"You can hear the young officer who was primarily engaged in the confrontation saying that 'He has my gun. He has my gun.' He says it several times, with conviction," Beck said.

LAPD released photos Monday that Chief Beck said showed the man reaching for the officer's handgun in his waistband during the fatal struggle.

The LAPD is currently testing body cameras in a pilot program, and officials have committed to eventually rolling them out to all officers.

"That offers a unique perspective that we believe will be crucial to determining the propriety of the officers' actions," Beck said.

He added that the body camera videos, as well as other evidence, would be released upon the completion of the various investigations.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Rocket Carrying 2 Communications Satellites

On Sunday, the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying two communication satellites was successfully launched into space.

Liftoff for the SpaceX Falcon 9 went as scheduled at 10:50 p.m. from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The two satellites are deployed 30 minutes after liftoff.

SpaceX has attempted to land a used booster on a barge several times in the past, because if successful it would be a huge cost-saving measure for future space travel.

The company was not attempting the barge landing because it needed extra fuel to launch the satellites, SpaceX told the Orlando Sentinel.

San Francisco Bakery Reports Its Recipes Stolen

Mr. Holmes Bakehouse is known for its croissant-muffin hybrid, the cruffin. The shop estimates between 200 and 300 recipes were stolen.

A popular bakery in San Francisco reported several hundreds of recipes stolen on Friday.

Employees on Friday morning arrived at Mr. Holmes Bakehouse in the Tenderloin to find the shop's binders full of recipes missing, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The bakery's owner estimated 200-300 recipes were taken sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning. Nothing else was taken, and the bakery joked for its fans to be on the look out for any suspicious copycats.

The bakery is known for creating the cruffin, a muffin and croissant hybrid.

Pastry chef Ry Stephen told the Chronicle that he had back-ups of the recipes that were taken, so operations were not impacted beyond one batch of scones that did not get made.

On Facebook, the bakery assured fans it was alright after the "Cruffin Caper."

"This is not a hoax," the bakery added in another post.

Police told the Chronicle that there was no sign of forced entry, and authorities would be reviewing any surveillance footage in the area as well as talking with witnesses.

Video Shows Los Angeles Police Shooting That Injured A Homeless Man

In a video uploaded to Facebook, officers can be seen with two people. Two officers pull one person away. The other officers, who are farther from the camera, surround a man.

"Drop the gun," officers shout several times with their own guns drawn. About five shots can be heard on the video.

Witnesses believed the man had been killed by police, but CBS reported he was taken to a hospital by paramedics. BuzzFeed News has reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department for more information.

Witness also began shouting that they did not believe the man who was shot was armed.

Information about what happened before the shooting was also not immediately available. NBC reported the officers had been responding to a robbery in the area. CBS instead reported that a person had been pushed from a wheelchair.

ISIS Threatens Twitter Founder And Employees Over Blocked Accounts

ISIS supporters on Sunday called on jihadists around the world to kill Twitter employees because of the company's frequent blocking of their social media accounts.

"Your virtual war on us will cause a real war on you," reads an online post addressed to Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and shared by ISIS supporters.

The post, whose authorship is unclear, was accompanied by a digitally altered image of Dorsey in the cross sights of a gun.

Twitter, as well as YouTube, often move quickly to delete posts and suspend accounts that disseminate ISIS videos showing the gruesome executions of hostages.

Twitter's terms of service bar users from posting or publishing "direct, specific threats of violence against others." Users are also banned from using the service "for any unlawful purposes or in furtherance of illegal activities."

"You started this failed war," the ISIS post reads. "We told you from the beginning it's not your war, but you didn't get it and kept closing our accounts on Twitter, but we always come back."

"But when our lions [brave men] come and take your breath, you will never come back to life."

ISIS supporters who have been barred from traveling to Syria or Iraq to join the insurgent group have been previously encouraged to instead launch lone-wolf attacks in their Western home countries. Just last month, ISIS used Twitter to post a video suggesting followers launch attacks on police or military officials in the United States, United Kingdom, and France.

Sunday's online message (which was also shared on Twitter) called on ISIS sympathizers to attack the social media company and its "interests."

"For the 'individual jihadi' all over the world, target the Twitter company and its interests in any place, people, and buildings, and don't allow any one of the atheists to survive."
