Photographer Zhenia Bulawka and her boyfriend Christian decided to give their 11-year-old American Staffordshire terrier Mr. Dukes the vacation of his lifetime after learning that their time with their beloved dog was running out.
Mr. Dukes was in the final stages of his two-year battle with Grade III mast cell cancer. He loved swimming in the family pool, but had never seen the ocean, so the family piled in the car and took a trip to Assateague, Maryland.
Mr. Dukes was a rescue dog who, like his adopted sister Ruby, had his ears were clipped before finding a loving home. Violet rounded up the dog trio, and the three of them splashed around the ocean, took in the views and cuddled.
